OneModelPlace is without doubt one of the largest online community for photographers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, clothing designers, actors, actresses, agencies, managers, casting directors, event managers, filmmakers, videographers.
Membership is free for models (bit unfair) and 10 dollars per year for the cheapest bronze level.
What sets OneModelPlace apart from other online artist communities is not only that they charge for membership but the fact that certain for fee membership levels still have quite significant restrictions.
For 10 dollars a year no outbound link to the member’s homepage is allowed, only 5 photos per profile, a crappy member page URL, limited messaging to other members, filtering/censoring of the names of the competition from the body of messages, restrictions of many other premium features.
The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida based business no doubt is a very profitable enterprise and has the right to make as much annual revenue as it wishes.
As an advice from someone who belongs to OMP as well as many other free sites is that OMP is not worth the money because the investment on the return is not optimal the exposure is limited.
Because OMP charges membership fee it does not have to place Google Adsense on every one of its pages. some may find the lack of ads more professional but I rather belong to a free site with Adsense showing like ModelMayhem which is a fun and effective free networking community.
OMP has another feature which is not very security conscious: when a member is contacted via OMP’s internal messaging system the sender’s email address is revealed when the recipient gets the message.
I find this unnecessarily and a security hole.
OMP is quite flashy as in using flash navigation and has a 1990’s outdated feel to it design. Nothing cool about it.
Final word: if you are a model the basic not too interesting membership is free so there is nothing to loose. If you are other talent, well there are better free or pay sites out there.
